Frequently Asked Questions

What does individual therapy focus on?

Individual therapy focuses on anxiety, life transitions, identity shifts, relationship patterns, burnout, and emotional overwhelm. Sessions are mindfulness-based, attachment and IFS-informed, helping you understand what you’re feeling and why, while also giving you practical tools to respond differently.

How effect is virtual therapy?

I can honestly say that I would not have let go of my office space during Covid if I didn’t feel like the quality and integrity of our work could be accomplished virtually. The most important factor in “successful” therapy is the client believing the therapist can help them, and regardless of if I am in the same room as your or an a screen facing you, I am confident I can help you reach your therapeutic goals.

Does couple’s therapy really work in a virtual setting?

Couple’s therapy can be extremely effective both in-person and virutally. One of the benefits to online couple’s therapy is that often times, each partner will call in via a separate zoom link and this distance can sometimes allow for greater vulnerability and honesty because of the physical space. If tensions run high, they have time to cool down before reconvening at home later, which can feel very supportive.

Does Joree Rose offer only virtual therapy in California?

No. I offer virtual individual therapy for adults as well as couple’s throughout California. Sessions are available via secure video and are accessible from anywhere in the state. She also offers in-person intensives in her home office for well-established clients.

What does an in-person intensive entail?

An in-person intensive is a therapy session that lasts between 2-4 hours, and takes place in Joree’s home office, in Danville, CA. These intensives are offered to established clients who are ready to go deeper and seek greater movement in their work. While weekly sessions are beneficial, real change can occur quicker when more time is dedicated to exploring and identifying underlying roots to current challenges or patterns. An in-person intensive once a quarter can create lasting and effective change for clients ready to go deeper.

What does it mean to be mindfulness-based?

Joree is passionate about mindfulness practice and believes it is the root of all healing. Mindfulness is rooted in Buddhist meditation practice, and while Joree holds true to the tenets of it’s origins, she teaches and guides mindfulness in a secular, accessible way. The core principles of mindfulness are: being in the present moment (rather than getting stuck in the past or future unknown), accepting what is arising (rather than being in resistance or judgment of what is arising), responding versus reacting, and being compassionate rather than judgmental. Both current research, as well as validity of a practice that is over 3000 years old, shows the benefits of mindfulness and meditation to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, while overall improving quality of life and relationships.

What is IFS-informed therapy and how does it help?

IFS (Internal Family Systems) is an approach that helps you understand the different parts of yourself – the part that worries, the part that shuts down, the part that is your inner critic, and others… Often times, when we are triggered, one of our “parts” takes over and we can feel helpless and like our “wise, adult self” is unable to manage the current stressor. When being curious about our parts, we can uncover the time in our past in which these parts developed, and what strategies were created at that time to help you feel safe or secure. As we get older, and new situations arise, these old parts can still “act out” – but with greater awareness of our old patterns, the greater ability we have to see them as an old “part” of ourselves, rather than over-identify with that part. This helps us to respond and not react, and learn new strategies for dealing with stressors.

How long does individual therapy take?

There is no one answer for this question as it varies from client to client, based on what is bringing them to therapy and how deep their patterns run. For some clients, therapy is a handful of sessions – between 8-10 – to learn new strategies for acute stressors or for a difficult life experience. For others, I am a “lifestyle” therapist, which means that our work grows together, and whatever new life stage you are in, brings with it new awarenesses or challenges, and together we evolve your patterns, tools, strategies and resources. The “work” of healing is never a “one-and-done” – life is hard and new challenges always arise. My goal is to support clients to feel capable and strong to face whatever is arising, and our work together gives a solid foundation of safety and trust from which to grow from.

Does Joree accept insurance?

No, working with me is private pay, out of pocket. If you get partial reimbursement for out of network providers, I can provide a superbill at the end of the month to submit to your insurance company. Payment is due at the time of services rendered.
