“I want to stop yelling!” – Online Mindful Parenting Class; Week 4

It’s a cliche to say that we, as parents, have no time. We are constantly juggling our time, attention and energy between our kids, our self, our partners, our work, our home, our friends and extended family. This is an endless game that we always feel we are losing at. And as a result, we are short tempered, not present, always stressed, overwhelmed, and anxiously awaiting for it all to get easier, which inadvertently will happen when the kids are grown and out of the house, which means that we will have spent their whole childhoods missing the beauty amidst the chaos.
While this is the reality of lives of parents, and while the stressors are not going to go away, there is a way for it to be easier. For it to feel better. For you to not be so overwhelmed and frustrated all the time. It’s not going to change overnight, but change is possible. And the best part, it isn’t just going to feel better for you – it’s going to be better for your kids too.
It is possible to:
- have effective discipline that WORKS!!
- role model the behaviors you wish to see in your kids
- find the peace and joy
- slow down, be present and not worry about what is next
- respond and not react
- manage your expectations of your kids, your partner, and yourself
- decrease yelling, frustration, anger and resentment
- enjoy the process and not just wait for it to be over
